Educational Foundation Annual Scrapbooking Event January 28 and 29 - Join us for the Grass Lake Educational Foundation's Annual Scrapbooking event at Grass Lake High School on Saturday, January 28, 2012, from 9 AM to 11 PM, and Sunday, January 29, 2012, from 9 AM to 4 PM. Participants can pay at the door on the days of the event. $55 for Saturday and Sunday, $40 for Saturday only. $25 for Sunday only. SPECIAL HOLIDAY BREAK PAYMENT NOTE! ![]() Free and Reduced Lunch Applications AvailableChildren need healthy meals to learn. Grass Lake Community Schools offers healthy meals every school day. Middle and High School students may buy lunch for $2.15, Elementary students may buy lunch for $1.90 and all students may purchase breakfast for $1.25. Your children may qualify for free meals or for reduced price meals. We sell reduced price lunches for $0.40 and breakfasts for $0.30. Union Street (near the bus garage).
New Nutrition Requirements for the National School Breakfast and Lunch programBreakfast and Lunch menus have been revised this year to meet the new Nutrition requirements for the School Breakfast and Lunch programs. Students will notice several changes to their meals. Due to the new laws, Students will be required to take at least one serving of fruit or vegatable with their meals in order for those meals to qualify for the school lunch price. Students that do not take fruits or vegatable will be charged an Ala Carte price which will be higher then the school meal price. Beans, dark green vegatables and more whole grain breads have been added to the menus. All Salad Bars will have more vegatable choices available. Starchy vegatables such as potatoes,corn and peas will only be offered once a week on the menus and the Ala Carte lines at the Middle School and High Schools. Ala Carte snack items sold at the Middle and High Schools have changed also. Nachos and soft pretzels with cheese sauce will no longer be available at the High School for purchase. Due to new calorie and sodium requirements, soup will not be offered on the salad bar at the Middle School. 1% white milk, skim white milk and skim flavored (chocolate) milk will be offered at all three schools.

Healthy Hunger-Free Kids ActThe Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act was signed into law by President Obama on December 13, 2010. This new legislation is the first major nutritional overhaul of the National School Breakfast and Lunch Program in 15 years. School meals will require the offering of more fruits and vegetables. Milk will be available in fat-free or 1% low-fat. Chocolate milk will be allowed as long as it is fat free and has no more than 28 grams of sugar. At least half of all breads offered will have to be whole grain. In two years, all breads will be whole grain. Saturated Fats in meals will be reduced. Foods that have Trans Fats will not be allowed. Meals will have a Calorie limit. Starchy vegetables such as corn and potatoes will be allowed once a week. Sodium will be reduced over the next ten years. Guidelines for Ala Carte foods and classroom snacks have changed.
